Decorating or buying for a nursery

Perhaps you don’t know the gender of the baby whose nursery you’re planning or buying a gift for. Maybe you don’t want to know if it’s a boy or girl or it hasn’t been revealed yet. Or perhaps you prefer monochrome to pink or blue? Choosing a gender neutral colour scheme was something that was important to me when I was designing my nursery – and why shouldn’t boys have pink in their nursery anyway?

Creating a scandi-inspired children’s bedroom, with lots of neutral and natural tones and textures looks great when some monochrome artwork is added. With a neutral colour palette you can easily add pops of colour - I love yellows, mustards, light pinks and greys - which works with whoever the little person may be.

There’s also the scientific research that babies in the early months can’t see very well due to their retinas not being fully developed, so they respond well to bold, simple, high contrast black and white images. Another fab reason to go for it. As they grow the scheme grows with them and still feels relevant for a toddler, tween and even teen - although I’m sure many more art work and redecorating will happen from now until that point in the future!
